I shot these images quite some months ago - but I just keep coming back to them to revisit the fun afternoon we had down in Wollongong along the beach, and up on Kiera mountain in the bush!
This shoot came along as a favour to a friend and probably one of my favourites to date. You will probably scroll through these images and think, "Wow check out this model!?" I thought the same thing when scrolling through once I uploaded the shots at the end of the day. Funnily enough the lovely Justin is a graphic design student at UOW and is VERY modest about his almost perfect looks - I mean seriously, those lips are ridiculous.
Justin was such an amazing subject to shoot, all he had to do was a slight pout, squint and it was on. Snap. Upload. Few minor adjustments. Save. Salivate for a few minutes.
We shot up on the mountain in Kiera, a little boys scouts club and camping ground. Divine location. I plan on going back to shoot against the amazing sandstone wall that we didn't have a chase to get close to. The weather was ridiculously hot, but Justin rocked it in his out-there leopard print shirt, and amazing sunglasses (that he dropped and scratched during the shoot!). We then made our way up to the chapel further into the bush - and while shooting I could hear a faint buzzing. The noise slowly became louder, and louder - until I looked above our heads and noticed THE BIGGEST/CRAZY/HUGE/ BEE HIVE COLONY I have ever seen! Naturally, Justin and I absolutely shat ourselves and were determined to get out of there. Of course, the one-way-in-and-out path was directly under the bees swarming in a circle. So Justin and I decided to jump off track (I was in shorts and sandals - not the smartest attire to be wearing in bush that comes past my knees). We eventually made it back do the path - not without one of the Scout guys having a giggle at how scared we were. DAMN - totally thought we got away with scramming like little school girls. Unfortunately I didn't take any shots of this crazy hive as I was literally praying for my life!
Anyway, here are a few snaps from Kiera.

We then made our way down to the beach in Wollongong - I think it's called the Lagoon? The wind was whipping and we had to cross part of the little lagoon that was way too deep for my little short body. Again, no photos of this little funny moment because I was convinced I was going to fall straight into the water with my car keys, phone, camera gear etc. The sun was at it highest point - I know, big no-no to shoot at this time. But for what Justin was going for, I kind of liked the exaggerated shadows on his face. Justin was also after a horizon type shot where his clothes would be dipped into the water in line with horizon to accentuate the contrast between wet and dry, water and sky, light and dark. As it was so windy we only had a few attempts to get the shot before the massive waves started crashing around him and soaking the top half of his shirt. After he was drenched all over the real model came out to play. He's just simply amazing. And I think most models would die for that bone structure and those lips. I won't say anymore, just see for yourself.
I love shoots that don't always go to plan. Your expectations are always low, but then when you see the finished product and it's something even better - you can't really complain, can you?
Will be posting more photos soon of some other shoots that haven't made it on the blog yet.
Love SAS
